“Bakers of Glory”

Clinton Sloan, a sugar devouring cake tornado. Spawned in the bakery fires of Cundletown.
A troubled childhood, “if you call being a 12 year old working nights in a bakery troubled”. At age 16 Clint escaped a life of school and underground skateboarding by becoming a star in the cake decorating scene. Possibly the only cake decorator to win national ballroom dancing championships and trophies in surfing, which is not to say this now donut maker doesn’t have a more savoury side. He recently started a bagel business. “Before a big morning of baking I like to set my alarm for 2am. My parents always said, getting out of bed early releases the soul”. “Personal philosophy, gluten optional”.

Tess Sloan, she’s a child of farmers, a fruit picker. Defined by elegance, her 2 children and an ability to tolerate a great pain (Clint). She was plucked from a bakery at age 18, by her now husband. She was once a successful athlete in almost every sport. She then turned her attention to nurturing her young children. Her ultimate find came in the form of freshly fried and baked goods. “I guess I had a pretty normal childhood” With her parents state of the art, some say questionable, cooking lessons this child prodigy was forged into an uberbaker. Soon Tess was frying the donuts and their trademark craziness was sweeping the nation with kids of all ages devouring the deliciousness. A champion, a parent, a wife. Tess Sloan, Queenstown’s little awesome baker.

After holidaying in Queenstown and spending so much time in the town we decided to make it permanent in 2015 with the dream of starting our own business. We sold our bakery in Australia, said farewell to all our family and friends and with our two young children started a new life in Queenstown.

We opened Balls and Bangles in 2016 with a goal to make the craziest jaw-dropping donuts and amazingly fresh bagel sandwiches. Our philosophy has always been to be friendly, fast, and most importantly baking fresh everyday.

 SUSTAINABILITY

Making sustainable choices in every area of Balls & Bangles is at the forefront of our minds. That's why we use cardboard packing for have-here & takeaways, paper straws, biodegradable takeaway coffee cups and we encourage people to stay and enjoy their coffee here. We're always looking for ways to improve and make changes that will have less impact on our environment.
